Charm Forest Green by Anchor-Hocking Glass Company

Last week I went to a art gallery opening of a childhood friend.  I caught up with friends that I have not seen in several years.  Too much time had gone by.  During the course of catching up one of them mentioned I had not had a blog about collecting in awhile.  How right she was.  I checked and it had been five months since I last posted anything.  I slowed down my hunting trips during the winter.  However, spring is in the air and it will be time to hit the trail again.

Last year I started collecting the pattern named Charm by the Anchor-Hocking Glass Company.  It began with the purchase of luncheon plates, coffee cups, and saucers.  Charm is a simple midcentury design in the shape of a square (The exception is the platter).   It was produced 1950 through 1954 in multiple colors.  Those colors being Forest Green, Royal Ruby, Blue, and White.  I have read that Forest Green and Royal Ruby were marketed with Christmas in mind.  Although I'm not sure if this is 100% true.  The pattern seems to have been a popular one.  I have bought pieces as far north as Milwaukee, Wisconsin and as far south as Vincennes, Indiana.  I have also bought pieces online from Alabama and Florida.  The seller of the pieces in Alabama had found them at a thrift store in Hawaii.

There were a variety of pieces produced for this set.  There are plates of varying sizes for different purposes.  Those are salad, luncheon, and dinners plates.  Two size bowls were produced.  Those being  soup and dessert bowls.

The serving platter is more of a rectangle, however, it features the same design in the center.  The serving bowl is a large deep bowl with the same center design.    The coffee cups, creamer, and sugar bowl are square in shape as well.

I have nearly completed a place setting for twelve.  There are two hard-to-find pieces in this pattern.  Those are the dinner plates and soup bowls.  Currently I have only four dinner plates and two soup bowls.  I am still on the hunt for those pieces!  In addition to this pattern Anchor-Hocking made complimenting glasses in the Forest Green color.  I have begun to pick those up as I see them too.

  1. Hello!

I am just seeing this comment. For some reason I was not alerted when the comment was posted. I checked out the website and loved what I saw.
